Beijing Hub

Beijing Hub
Beijing Hub
Our newest R&D hub in Beijing, established in November 2009, is crucial to our vision of expanding in Asia. The investment of more than EUR 150 million and the creation of more than 200 highly qualified jobs over the next three years marks a new milestone in Merck Serono’s commitment to China.
The Beijing hub, with complementary sites in Shanghai and Guangzhou, leads drug development for local clinical trials and participation in global clinical trials. Our presence enables us to liaise more effectively with regulatory officials, academic institutions and other research-oriented organizations as well as conduct clinical trials that accelerate the development of products to treat high-prevalence diseases in China. There is a continuous effort to look for partnerships with local academic institutions and companies.

Research activities at the Beijing R&D hub focus mainly on biomarker research, including pharmacogenomics and bioanalytics, which is part of our stratified medicine approach. Our development activities are centered on Oncology, Neurodegenerative Diseases and Rheumatology. Our expertise is concentrated in clinical monitoring, clinical trial management, data management, biostatistics, statistical programming, clinical development units, regulatory affairs, non-clinical development, portfolio and project management, quality assurance, drug safety and medical affairs.

Of the 1,200 employees at Merck Serono China, more than 115 work in R&D. This represents a two-fold increase in R&D staff during the past year.
The Beijing hub places a high priority on professional development. Employees are offered world-class training on cutting-edge research topics and provided with the opportunity to interact with renowned scientists and clinical experts
