Cetrotide® (cetrorelix acetate for injection) is a new generation of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist used to prevent a premature ovulation in controlled ovarian stimulation prior to assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

Treatment with Cetrotide® can be accomplished during one monthly cycle due to its immediate onset of actionCetrotide® has a favourable safety profile.

The role of GnRH in the body
Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) is naturally produced by the brain to control the secretion of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and, therefore, final egg maturation and ovulation. Premature ovulation can reduce the effectiveness of ART and cause complications (such as impaired quality or maturity of eggs and embryos and increased likelihood of early pregnancy loss). Cetrotide®, a new generation GnRH antagonist, works against GnRH to prevent LH production by the pituitary gland. It is administered to patients to prevent premature surges of LH that may lead to premature ovulation.
